To run the program for the first time or upgrade a previous version, drag the SuperClip program onto the System Folder. The system will place it in the extensions folder. The program requires system 7.0 or later. Restart the computer to run the program. There will be a "SuperClip instructions" file that is a Doc Maker type file, which will be created the first time you run the program. That file contains detailed instructions for SuperClip. The rest of this file is a simple tutorial that will demonstrate the major features of SuperClip. After restarting, open this file again and go through the tutorial. Any questions or comments can be e-mailed to Kishdude@aol.com.
SuperClip tutorial.
You may want to print this file to make it easier for you to go through the tutorial. SuperClip is a program that allows you to have unlimited clipboards. You can cut or copy as many items as you want and paste them back in any order you wish. You have access to the SuperClip functions from the SuperClip menu - the menu with the scissor icon at the upper right portion of your menu bar. Highlight sentence #3 below and then choose SC Cut from the SuperClip menu. You will hear a scissors sound and the scissor icon from the menu will open and close.
This is sentence #3.
The sentence was cut from this document and placed into the currently open SuperClip file which is "SC default" in this case since this is the file that is opened immediately after startup. Now highlight sentence #2 and again choose SC Cut.
This is sentence #2.
Repeat the process for sentence #1.
This is sentence #1.
Now click the mouse after the sentence "Paste sentences here" to move the cursor to that point.
Paste sentences here:
Now choose SC Paste from the SuperClip menu. The menu icon will change to a clipboard and you will hear a "writing to clipboard" sound. Sentence #1 should now be pasted. Choose SC Paste again and then one more time. All three sentences should now be pasted. Notice that the sentences were pasted in the reverse order from which they were copied. That is, they were in what is called last in first out order. Select Settings from the SuperClip menu and then click on the first in first out box then click OK. Cut the three sentences you pasted above individually using SC Cut starting with #1 and then paste them back using SC Paste. Now the sentences are pasted back in the same order in which they were cut (first in first out order). Once again cut the sentences above individually starting with sentence #1, but this time instead of choosing SC Cut from the SuperClip menu after highlighting the sentence, type -shift-X. SuperClip allows for keyboard equivalents for any function. Note that before the scissors sound, you heard a click sound that indicated that a SuperClip keyboard command was issued.
Now lets suppose you wanted to see what sentences you have copied or cut. Choose the SC default menu item from the SuperClip menu. The name of this menu item will change depending on what SuperClip file is currently open. Selecting this menu item will open the SuperClip Viewer which allows you to view SuperClip files. You can scroll through the items in the file by using the scroll bar at the bottom. Scroll until sentence number 2 is showing in the window. Click in the yellow information area at the bottom of the window and you will get a dialog box asking you to name the clip. Enter "Sentence number 2" as the name and click OK. Click back in this window to make it active, and click after the "Paste here:" message below.
Paste here:
Now hold down the mouse on the SC Paste menu item. A popup menu appears with the names of all the clips in the SC default file. Using the popup menu, you can instantly paste any item from the file. There is also a popup menu under the SC Duplicate menu item which allows you to duplicate any item from the file. There is a similar popup menu under the Open SC Master menu choice that allows you to duplicate any item from the SC Master file even though it is not open. Now choose the Sentence number 2 from the popup menu under SC Paste. Sentence number 2 is now pasted. When the SuperClip viewer is open, the next item that is pasted is the item that is currently showing in the viewer. Using this method, you can paste any items in any order you wish. Click back in the viewer to make it active, and click the "Clear" button twice to clear the two remaining items in the SC default file. Then click in the close box of the viewer to close it and return to this document. Now choose Open SC master file from the menu. This opens the SC master file. This file is like any other SuperClip file except that any item in the file may have a keyboard sequence associated with it. Click back in this document to make it active. Type your name and address in the section below.
Type name and address here:
Now highlight what you have typed and choose SC Cut from the menu. Click back in the viewer to make it active. You should see you name and address in the window. Now click the "KBD" button to assign a keyboard command for this item. Type -shift-M to assign this keyboard sequence to this item and click OK. Now choose SC default from the submenu of the Open SC file menu item. This will again open the SC default file. Copy the following sentence into the file.
Copy this sentence.
Now click under "Paste here:" and then type the keyboard command -shift-M.
Paste here:
Your name and address is automatically pasted. Note that the SC master file need not be open to paste an item from that file using its keyboard command. This file is useful to store commonly used items for instant access such as your name and address. Now choose SC paste and the sentence you previously copied should now be pasted.
As a final exercise, choose Select All from the edit menu and then choose SC Copy from the SuperClip menu. You have just copied the entire text of this document to your SuperClip file. You can use this method to quickly save information such as e-mail you want to read later or references or passages from a document you are reading for later viewing.
You have just used the basic functions of SuperClip. We have been working with only text in this tutorial, but SuperClip can copy any type of information that can be placed on the clipboard. You should now read the SuperClip instructions file (located under the About SuperClip menu item) for more detailed instructions.
